More on the Immersion Experience Week or Weekend.
Participants are required to take six elective courses, each worth 3 units, two or three times per year. Examples of the courses offered are:
Every course has an Academic, Communal, Personal and Practical dimension. The structure of the day will include lectures, discussion, the practice of new insights, personal reflection time, and worship. We believe Christian spirituality cannot be taught as cognitive content apart from personal experience. Electives are available in both weekend and weeklong formats.
Each elective course is 3 units for a total of 18 units toward the Certificate.
Since the program is designed to offer both knowledge and skills in the praxis of spirituality, each candidate will be expected to conceive, design, and conduct a practical act of ministry. The practicum can include projects like:
The Practicum provides 4 units of the Certificate requirement.
As the capstone of the Certificate Program, the last 6 units consist of a spiritual pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Pilgrimage is an ancient form of Spiritual Formation. This pilgrimage will provide the opportunity to visit sacred sites, remember their significance, and connect with their meanings. Pilgrimage also provides an excellent setting for community and those who have made these pilgrimages say that the community has been of equal importance with the sites. This is not a tour, but a pilgrimage to deepen your faith by visiting holy places for prayer, reflection, meditation, and prayer.
